Dr. Barbara Kurshan

Director, Education

Dr. Barbara (“Bobbi”) Kurshan guides the strategic development of i2’s education investment platforms. She is the Executive Director of Academic Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. As an academic and entrepreneur, Dr. Kurshan has honed her vision of “what can be” using technology while supporting the growth of education companies and developing innovative software products. Her business career includes executive positions at Educorp Consultants Corporation, WorldSage, Curriki, and bigchalk. She was also Co-CEO of Core Learning, an education investment fund. Dr. Kurshan’s academic career includes positions at Virginia Tech, Hollins College where she researched the impact of technology on learning. Dr. Kurshan developed the first children’s software products for Microsoft and created award-winning products for McGraw-Hill, Apple, CCC (Pearson) and others. During the past decade, she has received awards including the WISE Award for Innovation at the World Innovation Summit for Education and “20 to Watch” award from NASBE, the Laureate, Tech Awards from Technology Benefiting Humanity, the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize, the ISTE “Making It Happen” Award, and the Women’s Venture Fund’s “Highest Leaf Award.” Dr. Kurshan earned a B.S. in Mathematics at Newcomb College of Tulane University, an M.S. in Computer Science and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology at Virginia Tech University.
